Surya Shirodhara – Portable Shirodhara Machine

WHAT IS SHIRODHARA?

The name Shirodhara comes from two Sanskrit words: shiro (head) and dhara (flow). It is a traditional Ayurvedic therapy in which a gentle, continuous stream of warm oil or herbal liquid is poured onto the forehead.

HOW IT WORKS:

In Ayurvedic tradition, the steady stream of warm oil on the centre of the forehead is used to soothe the mind and nervous system. The rhythmic flow and gentle pressure are associated with deep relaxation, a calmer state of mind and more restful sleep.

HOW TO USE:

1. Assemble the Shirodhara unit as shown in the instruction manual.
2. Place the Shirodhara pot on the top ring of the unit.
3. Warm 1.3–1.5 litres of your chosen oil in a separate pan until lukewarm (recommended 38°C / 100.4°F).
4. Make sure the pot’s nozzle is CLOSED, then carefully pour in the warm oil. Do not fill to the brim.
5. Lie down and rest your head comfortably on the head rest.
6. Open the nozzle to start the flow. Keep it centred for a steady stream, or guide it gently from side to side with the oscillator.

USAGE GUIDE:

• Session length: typically 30 to 60 minutes
• Course: traditionally done for 3, 7, 14 or 28 days, as advised by an Ayurvedic practitioner
• Oil temperature: lukewarm, around 38°C / 100.4°F
• Capacity: base holds 2 litres; 1.5 litres of oil recommended per session
